Early Years Area

Welcome to the Great Orton Primary School EYFS.

The early years foundation stage ( EYFS ) sets standards for the learning, development and care of your child from birth to 5 years old. All schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers must follow the EYFS , including childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes.

Within the Foundation Stage there are seven different areas of learning. These are split into prime areas of learning and specific areas of learning.

The prime areas of learning are: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language and Physical Development.

The specific areas of learning are: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the world and Expressive arts and design.

We assess each child regularly through interactive play as well as whole class teaching. We use skills ladders to see the children's next steps. Examples of these are below.

We teach this framework through engagement within our Class One lesson and a variety of structured play and practical activities are offered to support learning in the seven areas. Our two year plan sets out our aim to cover a range of topics - however this is subject to change as we get to know the children and learn about their interests.
